Enterprise Business Challenge finalists announced!

One of the contestants will be named 'Enterprise Business Challenge' winner 2010, receiving a £10,000 cash injection to their business as well as ten hours of Legal, Accountancy, International Trading Advice, PR and HR support from leading companies. The six semi-finalists;

1. Carbon Voyage – James Swanston


Idea summary: A web application that cuts costs and carbon emissions through improving the utility of vehicle journeys. Initially the idea was focused around empty return journeys at airports for taxis, which is a massive source of efficiency. However, it was clear that this was only part of the solution and there was really opportunity in trying to look at a multi-modal solution. 


2. Learn2Lingo – Shira Rubin


Learn2Lingo Offers live personal language tuition by webcam. Students pay Learn2Lingo and Learn2Lingo pays the teachers whilst taking a percentage. The vision is to become the number one website for live online language tuition. Learn2Lingo is creating a unique online classroom, making learning flexible, convenient and affordable. Lessons can be pre-booked or on-demand and last 30-minutes and are one to one.

3. Good Life Allotments – Carl McCormick


For a monthly fee 'Good Life Allotments' establish an allotment by planting the vegetables that have been chosen by the costumers on their website. GLA water, weed and harvest the allotment, package the vegetables and deliver weekly to their home within 3 days of picking.

4. Bespoke Radio Ltd – Jamie Wlkinson


A bespoke radio show is a personalised gift, where every aspect of the content is designed specifically for the recipient. It sounds just like a professional radio show, with features, professional presenters and selected music. Each show is delivered on compact disc in a glossy digipack. The idea for the business began in 1999 when the founder was running a student radio station in Newcastle University. 


5. Funky Lunch Ltd – Mark Northeast


Funky Lunch is about encouraging children to try new healthy foods in a fun and exciting way. Their website has received over 270,000 hits in its first 9 months and is still receiving good daily traffic. They plan on developing a global good stall franchise. 


6.Freight Option - Mark Woolnough 


Freight Option is the online destination for freight quotation and comparison for the transport industry. Shippers can register & post quote requests with one simple form. The website helps both shippers and transport companies save time and money, by speeding up the quoting process and proving multiple offers to the shippers.
