Peter gets Challenged: £100,000 in 4 days

Peter does his big for Comic Relief

ENTREPRENEUR and TV Dragon Peter Jones CBE is calling on Britain’s small to medium-size businesses (SMEs) to dig deep to back this year’s Sport Relief campaign.

Peter has answered a plea from David Walliams to take on the role of “fund raising guru” in support of The BT Sport Relief Million Pound Bike Ride.

The 1,000-mile ride from John O’Groats to Lands End is being led by Walliams and supported by a team of fellow celebrity pedal-pushers - Jimmy Carr, Fearne Cotton, Miranda Hart, Patrick Kielty, Russell Howard and Davina McCall – who are hoping to raise £1 million.

The team will start the grueling 80-hour nonstop relay on Monday morning (1 March, 2010) and at the same time Peter will kick off a marathon money-raising effort that aims to shine a spotlight on charitable companies willing to shrug off the recession.

Peter will be asking businesses nationwide to make a small donation that could make a collective big difference to the good causes supported by Sport Relief. He is specifically looking for 1,000 companies to donate at least £100 each – but he hopes many will choose to donate a lot more and that more than 1,000 companies will take part.

In return, Peter has created his own online share index called ‘The Pedal Power 1000’, which aims to advertise and promote each company who makes a donation.

“I know businesses have had a tough time but I am convinced that many will want to get involved in supporting this good cause – and I hope that a little promotional support from me in return will make it worth their while,” said Peter.

“Other big TV charity efforts don't seem to actively involve smaller companies in their fund-raising – but these firms like to do their bit and should get some recognition for their efforts,” he added.

Ten of the companies who take part – the five companies who donate the most money, and five chosen at random – will be invited to a lunch hosted by Peter and his investment team, where they will get a chance to talk about their business.

Peter will be catching up with the celebrity cyclist at various points en route in his mobile boardroom – a converted bus, which will be the operational HQ of his and his team’s fundraising efforts. He will also be waiting at the finish line at Lands End, scheduled for next Thursday (4 March, 2010). Companies who wish to make a donation via Peter’s Pedal Power 1000 can do so at: www.peterjones.tv
