Peter Jones CBE, Chairman of Enterprise UK, went along to help launch the Make Your Mark with a Tenner annual enterprise competition.
Make Your Mark with a Tenner is Enterprise UK’s flagship annual enterprise competition for 11-19 year olds. It is designed to expose young people to a positive enterprise experience by giving them a practical, simple opportunity to turn their creative money making ideas into reality, with real start up capital. The competition has an emphasis on social enterprise as young people will be encouraged to develop ideas that “make money and make a difference”. The 2010 competition officially launched on Monday 11 January, when the registration site went live for schools to register for their Tenners.
Tenner month, when young people receive their tenners and take part in the competition, will be in March.
When asked why he chose to work with the campaign Peter said,
“Make Your Mark with a Tenner empowers young people to make their ideas happen. We know that young people are increasingly concerned about the challenges society faces, and we’re aiming to show young people that by acting on an enterprising idea, it is possible to make a real difference, and importantly, their own dreams a reality."
“Make Your Mark with a Tenner harnesses the unrivalled energy and creativity of young people. Their fantastic achievements increase each year that we run it, proof that if you trust and empower young people to act entrepreneurially they will rise to the challenge. I encourage every school and college in to sign up to this, our biggest year to date.”
